The Railway Bridge over the Daugava River is situated in Riga and is supported by 10 piers, of which eight are in the water. Construction of the bridge began in 1909 and lasted five years. The Railway Bridge over the Daugava River was one of the first double-track railway bridges in the Russian Empire. Today, the railway bridge in Riga is particularly noticeable at night time when it is lit up in blue. During the national holidays the lighting is blue and white, as these are the colors of the flag of Riga.
